channel cats

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
they're awesome fish....I can't have one because they are illegal in AZ. Just keep in mind they grow VERY large, are very destructive and eat anything that fits in thier mouth.

i wanted some for my 55 but every small one i would catch would die or get sick so i would let it go, the only one i could ever get to live in my tank sucessfully was about a 18" one and that just got to big to fast, so i let it go again. but ive bought a cb albino from my lfs, they r awesome. i highly recommend a cb one.

Seen some albinos at the LFS they were the siz of football at the gut and about 20 -25 inches. I beleive they get bigger than that too, much bigger.

There ya go, stick that in your 10 gal! :22_yikes:
Anyway, obviously it takes time for them to grow that large, but I believe they will grow to 18-24 inches VERY quickly.

by the way that isn't me :hitting:

i had one untill abour 22"

skiddish
i dumped him in my lake

the world record is fifty-eight lbs...it was like 4 ft. long. The thing about catfish records though is this -

Most of the real monsters (blue cats and flatheads over 300 lbs, channel cats of 100lbs plus...according to legend) were caught in the old days by commercial fishermen. These fish were NEVER REPORTED. Reason being that 100-300 lbs of catfish would be a darn good paycheck for a commercial catfisher...and if it comes down to feeding your family or getting your name in some book...which would you choose?

Thats catfish lore though...might be BS...but it makes sense and old time catfishers swear its true.
