Quarantine Tank
im thinking about getting an albino channel cat and have some questions...

will a channel be ok in my 180?

how active are they?

any other additional info would be gr8 :)

eventually it will outgrow the 180 (bigtime) They grow fast and eat anything and everything that they can fit in their mouth, which may suprise you. its a lot bigger than it looks. Mine is over 12" and its a year old. The bigger it gets the faster it seems to grow.
here is a pic of mine frome a couple months ago...its a lot bigger and fatter now:)

Mine also never hides, and likes to "play" with the other fish

when you say "play" are you telling me that they are agro, or semi-agro???

will a channel cat be ok in 80 degree water???

80 degrees should be ok, thats about where i keep mine, and sometimes they just get in a mood where he likes to nip and rub on all of the other fish. Sometimes its like he just wants to stir the tank up and get everyone moving. He's never hurt any of the other fish, unless they fit in his mouth.

my albino channel eats everything it can fit in its mouth. not growing as quick as i thought it would, definately growing fast though. it likes to bump into the other fish during feedings. probably looking for food. very poor eyesight.

Mine DID eat anything it could fit in its mouth. I loved that guy he was a really cool fish, but he will out grow the 180 (make sure when he starts to get really big - you have a home for him when he outgorws your tank ^_^ ) I kept mine in 78-85 degree water and he did fine.

Thanks for the info, i actually ended up buying some extra large clowns, they were the biggest ive ever seen, about 4 inches for $30 each!!!

I used to have a couple of albino channels with my koi. They were doing great until racoons massacred everyone...EVERYONE! I got them at 2" and they grew to 11" in 8 months, but I had them in a pond. And if I did my calculations correctly...the pond was about 500 gallons.

I'm planning on doing a pond in my back yard. Haven't decided on how big yet but I'm definately going to get a few albino channels. Awesome fish.
