Not Alot of Info on this fish.. Anyone have information? Schooling Predatory Characin it looks like? PRETTY COOL..

Well Judging by the amount of views and replies, no one knows jack about this fish ;) Maybe Ivan or Phil will find this thread ... Heh, MFK will know about these fish SHORTLY!!

From what I've seen, Charax gibbosus is one of those fish that look a lot meaner and more predaceous than they are. They only max out at 5 inches, so that limits their "badass" factor somewhat. Very cool fish, IMO. I see them periodically, usually at extremely reasonable prices.

There's not much out there. They're believed to be non-guarding egg scatterers. If you are having trouble feeding him, I recommend trying frozen bloodworms or brine shrimp. I'm not sure if these fish should be kept in groups or not...also, make sure your water quality is up to par, that is, no ammonia, nitrites, and low nitrate readings for these open water fish.

Very nice, Very nice.. Thank you all for the information.

XoticAquatix hopefully will soon be bringing you live video of this interesting fish, as we love to document fish not often seen in the trade!!

They're peaceful "mean-looking" fishes... VERY cool. Some of their "cousins" are said to be scale-eaters, but nothing about this species. BTW, that's a possible utility for their teeths located outside their mouths.

Best regards.

Daniel.
