It's a catfish that act more like an amphibian than a fish. These cats inhabit the fallen leaf clutter on the stream banks. They forage for insects, their larvae, and crustaceans/amphipods living within the leaf clutter. About the only time they enter the stream proper is during spawning season.
I never kept this species, which incidentally is contained within the older genus name of Heptapterus (so you can google additional info. However, I've kept a similar species that appears to be completely amelanistic called Phreatobius sp. I never saw the trio I placed in a 20. For months I fed the tank and did routine maintenance. One day, we found wriggling fry at the edge of the leaf substrate. After shipping the fry off to other labs (this was in college), we saw nothing new for the rest of the year.
