At my desk
Okay so I got a free tank from a friend who was moving out of town and the thought of setting it up made me think that it wasnt really going to be free if I had to buy a new filter, so I went through my inventory and threw this together.

Its pretty standard, took less than an hour and was free to me since I already had everything.

I used an old kitty litter bucket, the first thing I did was remove the decals, I used a laquer thinner since they have a laminate over the decals.

Than I cut the bottom out of the bucket, I used a my circular saw, but a utility knife would work just as well.

I used another bucket to make a base for the first one, I didnt remove the decals since I planned to cut around them. There is eggcrate in the bottom to hold the filter media in the bucket.

I stuck the bucket and stand in a rubbermaid and called it done.

Then I remembered that I need to get the water into the bucket some how.....

I plumbed the inlet with 1.5" PVC, filled the bucket with filter media, stuck a quiet one 4000 in the sump, plumbed return line with 1" pvc and filled up the tank.

Been running it for a week and I cant complain, tank inhabitants are 1 6-7" RD and 1 13-14" cat?!?!

Good Job..

I don't know why some people think this is so hard...You just proved it isn't.

And in case someone didn't get it...The bio-wheel is just for seeding the new filter, right...

Thanks for sharing.

yes the bio-wheel is just to seed it.

I dont understand why people think building a wet/dry is difficult.... I suppose some just cant believe that something so simple will work as well, or better even, than a store bought filter that costs over a hundred bucks. The only thing I spent any money on for the purpose of fishkeeping was the pump, which I got off of ebay over two months ago for around $20 bucks shipped! I didnt need it at the time but now im glad i got it.
