Here's my $2.88 filter sock mount. Before this I was attaching them in my sump anyway I could, and it was a pain.
1. Small trash can; I used a 6qt from Lowes, the opening is the perfect size for teh socks I use.
2. Cut the middle out of the two large sides. I cut out both sides for maximum flow through in the sump.
3. Feed bottom of sock through top of trash can and out one side, Leave 2-3" sticking out of top.
4. Roll top of sock over top of trash can.

5. Place in sump. I sit the sock mount on rocks and in one case an upside down dog food bowl to keep the top of the sock above the water line
