He'd only need 1-2 of those for a 180g tank, depending on which model he gets.

I'm using a Jebao model, which is basically an Eheim knockoff, and even uses (and included) Eheim media. Got it for $90 free shipping, and it has 350gph. I added it to my 90g tank, and it was crystal clear in 24 hours...
