Will a regular fluorescent light fixture work for growing most plants? Like the ones found in drop ceiling office buildings.

Get 6500k bulbs for these fixtures.T-12 i beleive.Water Sprite does amazing with t-12's.

Also, there are new LED fixtures used for growing all sorts of plants(haha). But although idk what size tank you have, these new lights produce the same amount of light as a 600w hid however they only take up 90w of electricity.

make sure you get a 6700k bulb and have the proper wattage.

I agree. Match the pin configuration and the wattage of the lamps, and otherwise you should be okay. The hours of exposure and colour of the lamps is plant specific.

Well I found a fluorescent fixture for $5 on craigslist that I might pick up today, but would the walmart grow bulbs in a normal fixture be a better idea?
