Cheap LED light?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I have my 7x2x2 lit buy the light from a 55 gallon hood I think they are like 17 watts each so I have a total of 34watts of light. I am pretty sure it would be enough. I have seen threads of people using led Xmas lights.

i used to use them for car applications. They were pretty bright. I never tried with aquariums before. I did the christmas light DIY a few weeks ago. Took 150 LEDS to do anything worth while. I cant remember his name but a guy did an install using things from RapidLED.com and it looked great!

Check out instructables.com. There is an "instructable" there telling you how to make your own LED fish lighting for little money. It does involve your ability to solder, however. Anyway, in my experience, you need quite a bit more light to penetrate the tank sufficiently than you'd think, so design your light with the option of adding extra lights down the road.
