While back I set up a 30 gallon darter tank. At the time I had no desire to add live plants thus the round pebble substrate (regret that now lol).

I didn't want any lighting that increased water temp as wanted to keep it at 70/72 degrees which is room temp. I use a dome fixture with a 14 watt bulb .

The plants I later added have been growing daily with this lighting .I tried few types bulbs and the bright light is the best with the soft white being worthless.

Ahhh! It looks nice! i had seen some hanging fixtures in the dollar store, and those coiled bulbs at walmart. Im suing those to power grow some Moss and some Riccia... and other random stuff and itz doing great. I didnt have to buy a new plant light and it didnt cost much either! Good Job with your Idea! ITz Great! Nice Pictures Also =D

thanx i might try this one.

i have a 32watt bulb florescent like yours but soft white, and it seem to be hardly growing java moss

I have used cfl successfully before too. I would recommend getting the daylight or 6700k bulbs since they have more of the the light in the spectrum used by the plants.

The soft white was horrible . It was like not having light the plants didnt grow than when tried the bright light the plants boomed.

I am going to pick it up this weekend . I heard same its bit better than bright white same co makes them worse case I switch back as happy now but no harm in improving the spectrum.

Thanks
