whats the cheapest lighting for lps sps clams. I have a 36 bowfront gallon tank.
a 175 watt halide, with a cheap as hell magnetic ballast that will get as hot as a stove. and a ebay bulb.

to use cheap lps sps and clam in the same sentence will almost always end in dissapointment i would rethink your hurry that you cant save up for decent lighting.

agreed. I will say some lighting can be done cheap, but for keeping SPS and Clams in the same tank, regardless on if its a 10 or a 1000 gallon tank, is going to take certain lighting. I also would say a 175 watt halide would be best for your size tank. Even a 150 would do the job, with 1 or 2 T5 bulbs for actinic, then run halide in a 10K or 12K color and you will have a nice looking tank, and it will house your corals. Do some research for retro kits. Reefgeek.com, marinedepot.com are two good places to start but theres plenty of other websites that are reliable and see quality kits. My vote would go for IceCap. Best product for cost, and you get the best bang in each bulb, power wise lol.

thats not necesarily true, i have a nano 10 gal with 2 11 watt mini power compacts and i have lps growing like weeds... i havent tried sps yet, but i have faith it will work if i have them close enough to the light... i will try soon enough...

I went on ebay and found a company that sells complete metal halide aquarium systems for $85-$105. I was thinking of getting a 250 watt but I figured that it was overkill for my tank. They have 175,250 and 400watt systems. Also I have a choice of 10k,14k,or20k bulbs. These systems are all made by sylvania and are cold by insidesun.com
You guys have to check this out they have some good deals.

Also I was looking for the best h.o.t protein skimmer. I am between either an aquaC remora or a remora pro. Could I use a remora pro on my tank or is it to big. Also should I fill my AC70 with all carbon or should I put another type of media in there. What s the best brand of nitrate/nitrite removing media.
Thanks

SPS i think is given too much crud about being light hogs

many deep water SPS and montiporas do just fine under T5's or even PC's

same for most LPS's

remora... for sure

yeah remore, dont waste your money on seaclone lol. Did you end up going halide or T5's?? either lights should meet your needs. My T5s do anyways.
