Anyone know one. Like will sand from a hardware store work? I dont wont to do BB.

Also can I take driftwood from the local waters and boil it or something to make it safe to use?

Probably the cheapest sand substrate is Swimming Pool Filter (SPF) Sand. Costs about $8 for 50lbs.

With regards to driftwood, yes you can use it, but make sure you boil it or steam clean it. It would be loaded with harmful bacteria and fungi.

Where can I buy this sand?

Go with Children's Play Sand. At home depot they have like 50lbs for 3.98. Its not that attractive of a colour but its cheap and works good. Pool filter sand isnt supposed to be good for rays.
