So if I want to run water from my main tank to a sump and use a canister to pump from sump back to tank. Does anyone have suggestions for matching the flow for the tank drain to the canister flow? I looked at the diy overflows, but I'm not sure if they would work to match or if they more so just siphon do break as needed. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance

I imagine your tank is not drilled? The biggest issue you are going to run into is your canister being able to move the water. Most require the drain lines to be above it rather than next to it, so you probably wont even be able to get the flow moving from a sump right next to it.

If you are in fact able to get the canister to work, a properly sized overflow matches the flow of the return. Honestly, you are better off with two filters, a sump and a canister rather than trying to combine them.
