I have a lot of fish tanks. I know that many of us do and I'm wondering what other use to treat tap water for our very frequent water changes. About a year ago, I noticed that HOME DEPOT had water conditioner to remove chlorine and ammonia from water for fish ponds. I started to use it because it was about 1/4 of the price of that sold for aquariums. I've been very happy with it.

Where I live we only use chlorine. I use sodium thiosulfate. I bought 2 lbs for $7 shipped. That is enough to treat around 1, 000, 000 gallons. My grandkids will have plenty.

Which is exactly what the Home Depot pond treatment will be, simply a watered down version. What most people using pond treatments fail to realize is that pond treatments are designed for open water systems, not closed systems such as aquariums. That simple fact can result in a MAJOR difference in quantities required to safely & quickly remove toxic disinfectant agents such as chlorine and/or chloramine. As an example, Seachem Prime & Seachem Pond Prime are the exact same formulas, yet the suggested dosage rate for the Pond version is much lower than the regular Prime.
