does anyone have any suggestions on cheap lighting,

are led's any good?? never used them
what about self rechargeable lights such as solar lights,

i am not needing any great light just enough to illuminate a tank thats all,

so any suggestions for the people that know :)

thanks

I just found flourescent full-spectrum bulbs at Lowe's for one dollar each! They are 100 watt and are designed to replace incandescent bulbs. I've taken apart two old house lamps to get at the cord and bulb sockets. Now all that's left to do is build a little box to house them. This will be cheaper than the cost of one high quality flourescent LIFE-GLO style bulb. How's that for affordable?! :D

cut a water bottle sized hole in your roof, then fill a water bottle with water. place the bottle in the hole.
it will funnel light down into the room.
thats the cheapest solution it will light the whole room, 3 world countries do this instead of paying for actual lighting fixtures.

or if this isnt a option. buy a bunch or sockets with plugs, then buy either incadscent or compact flourscent bulbs. hang them over the tank.

really anything will work if your just using the lights for viewing not growing plants.

Might work fine if you live in a cardboard box or a tin house...

also i forgot you add some bleach to keep the water clear

Tin roofs. I've never seen tin roofs except in the odd tool shack. Good for them. If you're the kind of person who lives under a tin roof, I can see that as being a good lamp. Most people with fish (I suspect) have attics which would put a serious damper on using bottles as lamps. I'm not saying it's a bad idea, just that nobody living in a typical house can use it.

you could actually just buy some reflective dryer vent pipe. then put a piece of glass on the roof to cover the whole. so you could still use natural sunlight. it would be a cheaper version of those natural lighting tubes they sell, although i would advise any against bends like purchased ones can do.
just gotta be resourceful:D

Hey. That's a good idea! You'd probably want a wide pipe to catch morning and evening sun, but it would work.

2x40W shop lights are $10.
