Hey I am new to saltwater and I am just wondering if anyone knows a cheap way to get liverock. Such as a website or store close to Pennsylvania or something. I would really appreciate any help because I don't want to spend 6.50 per pound at a fish store. Thanks

You can make your own porous rock using portland cement, argonite, crushed shells, and rock salt. There is a link to a video of a guy showing the mix he uses and the process in one of the stickys in this forum.

You can also buy uncured rock and then just cure it yourself. Which you are going to have to do even if you make your own porous rock.

Regardless of the two above methods, I reccomend you buy 2 lbs of precured rock from an lfs to seed the uncured rock and help jumpstart the cycle process.

How much are you needing?

Just a few pieces of LR can seed an entire bed of dead rock. Or find a local reef club or someone on Craigslist who is tearing down their tank. I've seen good LR for as cheap as $1/lb.

Thats a good deal. Most people around here who have had a tank crash and fed up will sell for 3 dollars a lb, but my LFS is selling it for 4 a lb.
