Hey, check out my 6"dia.x16"tall FREE STANDING, filter sock holders I made.
This is how it happened:
I'm at work, I see an 8' section of 6"pvc pipe in the dumpster, yes, the dumpster....that was like 5 years ago, I take it home and put it up in the rafters in the garage.
Fast forward, how do I make a free standing holder for filter socks in my sump? Hmmmm.
Oh yeah, the garage. Anyway, the pipe is to small to allow the 7" neck to fit down in the pipe.:(
So I go down to Harrington Plastics, they have a web site also, and I bought a single coupler and they even cut it in half. The inside had a raised stop, just like a regular coupler, and it had to be filed down.
Anyway, long story longer, I drilled holes with hole saw, sanded down and BAM!!!
:naughty:I'm loving it.
BTW, my sump filters my 210g fresh and I dont even need to prefilter my pump feeding the UV.

Looks good. The only thing I see is that you are going to increase your maintenance schedule as the detritus will only be able to go out the holes.

Ingenious!

I thought that the point of the sock was to contain the detritus and in this case, the water flows through those holes and down to the bio media?...Great idea though,I'm fairly new to the usage of the sock and the way that my W/D is set up it basically sits on the drip plate directly underneath where the drain hose empties out to.I actually have a few pieces of PVC from a past plumbing project just sitting around waiting to be called upon.I have to make sure that the width is compatible with the sock though.
