Zz, check the stickies for care tips, treat them as any other CA cichlid and they'll be fine. Good luck.

Thanks, any advice on keeping him in a 20g for now til he gets bigger than i'll throw him into a 60g? my 60g has bigger fish that will definitely eat him.

It'll be fine in a 20 as a grow out, but your plans for 60 might get dashed, especially if there are other fish in there, your fh will need that 60 to himself, because of both, adult size and aggression.

i've grown out 10inchers in 20 gal tanks with no issues before...and their growth rate wasn't as slow as some may think. Not that I recommend that, because the water needs to be changed literally every couple days because of waste and they begin to look like an adult in kids clothing =D 40 breeders are perfect for solo grow out.

he's acting a little shy and he won't eat the food i give him 99% of the time but its his second day. more time? Also how can i determine the sex? it seems more likely of a female.

i grow all my hight quality fh in 20 longs or 29g so i can get better up close looks he or she will be fine in the for a will

just give it time to adjust to the tank. It's normal for fish to be a little skiddish and not eat for a few days. He'll be fine. Way too small to determine sex by looking at it.
