I just got this little guy today. He is so cool. He is all black all over. He does have stripes,but they are not white/blue. They are shades of black on black or depending on mood turn blue/black on the bottom half. I just had to have him. i even got 10 bucks off cause i said: how long that fish been here ? they said 2 weeks, i said "its cause its deformed, fronts are not black , must be a genetic fault. Nobody is ever gonna buy that thing."LOL. :naughty: They gave me ten bucks off. Im thinking it cant get any better, then they ask me to adopt three large nice mbuna that normally go for 30 bucks each. :jaw-dropp they wanted tank space. They acted like i was doing them a favor. I had wanted that black front so bad i probably would have paid extra ! I got 120 dollars worth of fish for $19.70:ROFL:

Thanks , here are a couple pics from last night, he is lighter now, can see some stripes now, i put him in the bigger tank with my mpimbwe fry. He sure is a bossy little bugger, very aggressive compared to the mpimbwe.

Here he is, notice the dark blue on some of his lower parts now. Might turn out very nice looking as adult. Keeping my fingers crossed.

His name is waldo. I never name my fish but i was always looking for him against the black substrate and could not find him til he moved so i would say "where's waldo" lol.

Here he is hunting tiny brichardi fry in the rockwork i added yesterday.

I've seen jet black fonts before! They're so cute. Once they get full grown they look so mean and ugly yet super cute at the same time. Gotta love odd-ball fish.
 
That would be a nice addition to a Front tank. You know the one that stands out against the rest....
 
Im pretty disappointed LOL. I bought it cause it was so dark, then it has lightened up alot now. It has normal looking stripes most of the time. I did notice that it gets dark all over occationally but now its just a mood thing where before it was all the time. He is still darker than the other burundi and my mpimbwe. I have a tank full of fronts all the same size as him and i can pick it out instantly cause it has darker colors. I just wish it was jet black all the time. Might have cool colors if it turns out to be a alpha male. Have to wait and see. I plan on keeping him till its atleast 5 or 6 inches to see how it will look as adult.

still an awesome score, all of them for $20

I bought a red oscar that was jet black just because of how dark it was, but it lightened up minutes after I put it in a tank.
 
mine stayed dark for a couple weeks (about 2 wks) now it comes and goes and when he does darken its not as intense. I still like waldo though. I think im gonna end up keeping him , i did make the cardinal sin of naming him LOL. Easier to get feelings when you give them names LOL.
