I was cruising craigslist and found a guy selling his 125, which just so happened to have all male peacocks and haps. I emailed him to see if he’d be willing to sell me just the fish, and of course, he was. He lists the fish that he has, and we agree to $15 per fish. When I arrive to collect, he hands me his receipt from The Wet Spot where he got the fish, which is where I was planning on getting mine. He’d only had them for 3 months, and was moving so needed to get rid of them.
Here is what he had:
Blue Neon
Bicolor
Lwanda
Pheno
Jalo Reef
Otter Point
Ruby Red
Dragonblood
OB
Electric Blue Fryeri
There are some look-alikes, but I couldn’t pass up a deal like that. $150 later I finally have the start to my very first African Cichlid tank. These guys are stunning! They are all about 2.5 to 4 inches. I know I’ll have to re-home some of them as the similar looking fish are likely to be at odds with each other, but I’m extremely happy with this stock, and think it’ll be a great launching point. Here’s a video I took last night:
