I believe its a marmoratus, he about 7 inches and fat .......
questions....

1. is it a marmoratus ?
2. is it a good one ?
3. are they fairly common ( because i dont believe i have seen one before )
4. will he be a tankbuster ?

I ask this because i usually research a fish pretty good before i get it .. but I got him for 10 bucks by mistake on the lfs's mistake and he was so cool looking i coulden't resist.

1. Yes thats a Leiarius marmoratus. You can tell its not a Pictus because of its less pronounced dorsal fin.
2. He looks well and if hes fat then it shows hes eating well and healthy.
3. I dont believe them to be rare, but i maybe wrong plus i live in the UK.
4. Yes he will be a tankbuster. It will grow to about 2 foot like the rest of them.

Yeah looks like one to me. Nice pickup.

They aren't to rare here in michigan, one of the LFS in kalamazoo, can get them anytime, $15 for a little one though. So $10 is a good deal for one that size. I paid $30 for my 16in.

What store you get him at in Jackson?

its not really a fish store perse is a dog grooming place that has a few tanks in which they sell fish from, they usually have a few fish and have no idea what they are...lol so once in a while i stop in and make an offer lol. nice looking cat though

Be mindful of its tank companions though, I had a baby around 2" at time of purchase grow to 8" in 3 months so like 2-3" a month I would say is typical growth if your feeding heavily and mine hadn't shown any signs of slowing down ~Trent

Mine grew from 16in to 20+ in the month and a half I had mine. Would have kept it if my male ray didn't decide he wanted to eat it and I had to take it out.

you can also tell the difference between this fish and perrunicthys perruno, by the fact that it has 12 soft dorsal fin rays, and perruno only has 8-9! Great pic up I had one just under 22" until my hybrids decided he was too much of an outsider and ganged up on him! Took them about 2 days of harrasment to kill him. Too bad I didn't have a different tank to put him in his barbells were like 24". Beautiful cat.
