These are my Pterophyllum leopoldi. I got these guys almost a year ago, they were about the size of a quater they are a little bigger than silver dollar size now. They really colored up nicely. This species is the least well known of the 3 but develops some amazing colors. sorry about the spots on the glass.

Wow! Awesome Leos! I don't think I've ever seen leos with red on them like that. Sounds like they are really slow growers, I've also read it takes forever for them to pair up.

Thanks I didn't think I was going to get any comments on them. They are the smallest of the Pterophyllum species so this is pretty close to full grown for them. They develop great colors but if you only see them in a fish store or as very young the colors aren't too impressive. I haven't seen any indication of pairing at all so far and I don't know how old they have to be before they mature sexualy. I have really come to love them and wounder why they are still so relativly unknown in the hobby, they are a hidden gem.

As far as color goes, they are easily the best I've ever seen. That red is really sharp and I see some blue on them as well. I saw some monster Leos on a thread on TAFII (I think) they were just huge - must have taken the OP 3-4 years to grow them out, and they just showed the typical silver, black & browns.

Thanks, they do have some blue in them too. The red is very strong in this group. They are feed NLS 1mm Thera +A and occasionally freeze dried blood worms. I'm pretty sure I posted these on TAFII when I got them. I've been a member there for a couple of years. They are a few threads about Leos over there.

Nice Tom!

Thanks Kev.

such nice colors :-)

Thank you Granny!

Wow, they look fantastic! They've really developed into gorgeous fish. I love this species as well. My six are getting the red and blue coloring, but they still need a little more growing to look their best. A seriously underated fish.
