Thats not a convict its a saltwater fish called a Sheepshead. Very good to eat but no convict.

that must be a sheepshead from the eastcoast or somewhere other than CA because here they are pinkish/redish when female then morph into a male and are all black with one big red vertical stripe and get much much bigger and are awesome to spear and eat , biggest one ive speared 25inches or something close to that hmmmm can you say fish tacos
