I’d have left it on the beach. If you want you can put it in saltwater and see what happens, but it probably won’t make it very long outside of the ocean, especially if it already was out of water. It is likely dead at this point, in that case you can cut it open and see what is inside.
If this is one of those "what's in the box" type competitions, i'm afraid you need to perfect your skills, you've already told us, lol.
On a more serious note though, as

mentioned, you should have left it where it was if there's something inside. Chances are now, whatever it is, it'll be dead!!
It was all the way at the top of the beach, buried in sand. I don’t think it could have lived through that. It is all dried up. And it is not a guess what’s in the box game. I just wanted to show you guys so etching cool!
