anyone using a check valve on their sump?

should i go spring check valve or non return ball check valve?

im worried the spring will take too much pressure to remain open, (although the pump is very powerful.)

or the ball rattling due to the flow.

any preference?

Swing gate type check-valves dont rattle but I would oversize as I dont like anything to impede the flow...checkvalves by nature do that. Example: 1" return from pump through a 2" gate style check then back to 1". This should allow unencumbered flow, but there is a possibility of water cavitation and the ensuing noise....

I dont run check valves and prob should but I have positioned my return nozzles near the surface of the tank and repeatedly tested/simulated power outages. The water siphoning back doesnt flood my sump so I'm good to go. I have heard if you put a smallish hole near the water surface to break the siphon, you can run the return deeper, but be sure to test said siphon-break hole to make sure it works.

thanks, appreciate the input.

i have drilled holes in the top of the spray bar so it will only syphon so much but i still dont trust it.

safe to say if im having a bad enough day for the pump to fail...its bad enough for the syphon to not break this one time until my entire house is soaked lol.

better safe than sorry. (plus i live on the third floor)

150 gallon, with a 40 gallon sump. ;-)

i live in the uk so it has concrete floors, the tank is next to the stairs for the block so weight is all supported. just dont want to come home and find all my neighbours none to pleased becuase theyre all wet lol.

needless to say it was such a mission getting it up there. i dont recomend it lol.
