I've come a long way with the help MFK forums, but wondered what people use as their chemical additives? I'm still using TetraAqua AquaSafe as the tap water conditioner, Stress Coat as a general additive (when needed) and API Aquarium Salt as a "tonic". With the addition of beneficial bacteria from other tanks (filters, decorations, etc) I also use Nutrafin Cycle with new tanks. Am I still in the dark ages with these products? Anything I'm missing that would help my tanks? The fish all seem to be doing well with W/C, good temps, good circulation, etc., so no problems to speak of, just curious!

Well on this site we have a very large base of Prime fanboys. They will tell you that prime is the best thing in the world and nothing else comes close to it as a water conditioner.

I still use aquasafe on occassion. But most of the time I buy sodium thiosulfate crystals off ebay and make my own water conditioner.

Other than that I use salt when needed and antibiotics when needed as well.

If what you are doing works I would not change a thing.

I use Prime as a dechlorinator...

Haven't used any other additives in years...

Ive used prime for a long long time. The smell is the only drawback but its inexpensive and very effective.

On new tanks I primarily use seeded media but if I get a mini cycle from a tank move etc etc Seachem stability has been good to me.

I just switched from amquel to Cloram-x for dechlor. It was like 30 bucks for 5 pounds and It treats 18,794 gallons. Also, you can buy a 30lb bag of salt at home depot for like 4 bucks, It's water softener salt made by Morton's and its the same stuff as API aquarium salt. Thats a lot more cost effective than buying it by the milk carton at a lfs.
