chemical fumes?

Can fumes from cleaning products or paint outside the aquarium hurt fish? , because I plan to paint the wall near my 55g and will be using latex paint and I would like to know if it's dangerous or if theres anything i could do to protect them from it if it's dangerous.

If should be fine just cover the tank 100% with something other than a trash bag..Some trash bags have chemicals on them...Just go to Lowe's and buy some giant polly bags to drape over the tank till you are done...
