I am planning to do a cherry shrimp tank with snails, my question is, I know I need plants for the both of them, but will just regular java moss on the bottom do? will the regular lighting for this tank be ok ? (10 gallon )
I plane on putting a sponge filter in this tank but what size, and will a power head be better then a regular pump?

You'll be fine with Java moss, they just wont look as neat on/ in it :).

ok, so you may be right. what do you sugest in low level plants? and snails that won't eat them?

I have that set-up. I actually have two set-up with cherry and CRS shrimp.

I put shrimp in any breeder that has eggs or babies in them for clean-up.

Java moss is fine. My tanks are polluted with random snails. Pond snails from plants and some kind of Red Ramshorns.

IF the population of the snails explodes, they do munch on plant leaves. I also keep Hygrophilia polysperma. I believe it's actually on the Fed Ban list now.

The java moss is fine in a 10 gallon. Throw in some drift wood to also help grow algae. A few dwarf cory's or baby cory to add some action, and your set to go.

thank you so much ! drift wood, a big problem finding here. its winter so no way to get to the lakes and rivers for me, the pet shop here does not have any so I am at the mercy of the web. way to high priced and not sure what to buy. maybe I will find some here from a seller :) I also need to get all my snails and cherry shrimp from a seller here to. my pet shop ( only local one in 110 miles thats decent does not have them or the snails. lame pet shop :wall:

i have an awesome piece of driftwood, cost me $75, nice and heavy. my bullheads love it! only problem is, that it stands about 4 inches above the water surface lol, i could turn it the other way but probably won't :D

do fish eat these shrimp? I was wondering if they were safe in big tanks with fish? ( see my sig for my fish )or are they just for small tanks and then only certain fish to go in them? can a HOB be used in the tank with them, or do I need to only use a sponge filter? I have a HOB just itching to be used :)

Fish will eat shrimp. Any fish that catches a shrimp will eat them, just like the wild.

If you have guppy's and swords, they'll eat the baby shrimp.
My tanks that have shrimp have Cory cats and pleco in them. I'm sure you can search my posts, I've posted a few picks in the past and had some shrimp in a moss ball post a few days ago.

A hob filter will suck up baby shrimp. I use a large sponge with a powerhead on a 30 long. If it is a shorter tank, like a 10 or 20, I would probably use a large sponge driven by an airpump.

I also have shrimp in a sump that survive but the pump sucks out all the baby's, so they'll al be gone at some point.

thanks, I appreciated your help. I get it now :) I will be sure to get a sponge, and a pump. no fish, just shrimp and snails :)
