I just ordered 15 cherry shrimp and I think that might be too many for my 35 gallon. I was thinking of trying to acclimate some to my brackish tank which is at about 1.01SG or a little less. Do they live in brackish waters in the wild?

No, they are freshwater shrimp, and will decline quickly in a brackish set up.

Why do you think the 35 gallon will be too small? You can keep 100-150 in a heavily planted ten gallon.

If you have fish in the tank, you probably won't be able to successfully breed them, and they will likely eventually be eaten by the fish.

Okay I actually just ordered 10. I will put them all in my 35. There are fish but I don't think anything that will bother the shrimp.

1 angel fish
7 cardinal tetra
2 cory cat
1 upside-down cat
1 apple snail
1 ghost shrimp

The angelfish and ghost shrimp are likely to eat the cherry shrimp. I've been told about people who kept ghosts with cherries, and the ghost shrimp ate the cherry shrimp. When I first got back into the hobby, I got some really nice cherry shrimp, and put them in with my angelfish, it was heavily planted, and one lone female lasted quite a while, but was eventually eaten.

Okay I skipped the cherries. Thanks for the advice. Maybe when I set up my dwarf frog/dwarf catfish tank I will get some.

Well, any type of fish will eat cherry shrimp, and if you want your cherry shrimp to breed and be active (instead of hiding all the time) it's best to be kept in a species only tank.

You can have otos in with them, as long as you provide the otos with adequate food, as they will turn to predation if hungry.
