Does anybody know if chestnut wood is safe to have in a tank? its nicer than oak! but need to be sure if its safe.

as long as it is dried and old it SHOULD be safe... but dont take my word for it im not 100% sure
There's a risk if the chestnut hasn't been properly cured (ie: spent a couple of years submerged in a stream with moderate current). Unless you can accurately ID the species of chestnut, be aware that the horse chestnut is highly toxic in all parts of the tree.
