Ok, so I'm in Cali, and my Cousin is getting married in July, in Chicago, and I'm thinking of making the trip out there. Going to see if I can get some training out there so work will pay for the flight. I don't remember the location my cousin lives in, never been there or Chicago before but I'll post that when I get that info from them. So in case I find some fish I want to take back at a good price what's the easiest way to ship the fish with me? i.e. Smal cooler checked in as luggage, or hand carry, other? I'm more into oddballs so I'll be looking for young fish. Also if I want to bring back a "unique" fish to CA what is the best route check in or hand carry? I'm assuming the hand carry and having liquid would be a problem with the airline regulation but their will be a live fish in there so I'm not sure. I don't have a ticket yet so I don't know which airline it will be so I can't reallly check with them yet. Any thoughts regardin this is appreciated.

never done it but seems to me just to have it shiped home and meet it there.

:iagree:

I was trying to avoid the shipping cost and having to be home to meet the package, as well as take advantage of being there and just seeing if I could take the package with me on the plane.

I thought I read someone doing something similar, just don't recall who it was.

You cannot carry it on.... in your lugage they will freeze. You will need to ship airport to airport or use UPS or FedEx

when i went to cali i took a cooler on with me for sandwhiches so u could bring a cooler and put some heat packs in it..and just bring it on with you ...or in a backpack...just get a back pack with a false bottom that zips they shouldnt check it..

Thanks repair and dovii88.

dovi88 - did they run the cooler through the x-ray? and when they saw the fish in bags did they say anything? They would run the backpack through the x-ray I assume as well.

not worth risking taking it on the plane. If they find liquid that is not on their list they'll probably throw it away.....fish included. Chicago has pretty strict security IME

In their own words...... from the website....

On Tuesday, September 26, 2006, TSA adjusted the ban on liquids, gels, and aerosols.

Air travelers may now carry liquids, gels and aerosols in their carry-on bag when going through security checkpoints.

Prohibited Items Brochure

» Click here to download our prohibited items brochure (pdf, 116kb)
With certain exceptions for prescription and over-the-counter medicines, baby formula and breast milk, and other essential liquids, gels, and aerosols, the following rules apply to all liquids, gels, and aerosols you want to carry through a security checkpoint.

All liquids, gels and aerosols must be in three-ounce or smaller containers. Larger containers that are half-full or toothpaste tubes rolled up are not allowed. Each container must be three ounces or smaller.
All liquids, gels and aerosols must be placed in a single, quart-size, zip-top, clear plastic bag. Gallon size bags or bags that are not zip-top such as fold-over sandwich bags are not allowed. Each traveler can use only one, quart-size, zip-top, clear plastic bag.
Each traveler must remove their quart-sized plastic, zip-top bag from their carry-on and place it in a bin or on the conveyor belt for X-ray screening. X-raying separately will allow TSA security officers to more easily examine the declared items.
Please keep in mind that these rules were developed after extensive research and understanding of current threats. They are intended to help air travelers bring essential toiletries and other liquids, gels and aerosols for short trips. If you need larger amounts of liquids, gels and aerosols such as toothpaste or shampoo, please place them in your luggage and check them with your airline.

To ensure the health and welfare of certain air travelers, in the absence of suspicious activity or items, greater than 3 ounces of the following liquids, gels and aerosols are permitted through the security checkpoint in reasonable quantities for the duration of your itinerary (all exceptions must be presented to the security officer in front of the checkpoint):

Baby formula and breast milk if a baby or small child is traveling;
All prescription and over-the-counter medications (liquids, gels, and aerosols) including KY jelly, eye drops, and saline solution for medical purposes;
Liquids including water, juice, or liquid nutrition or gels for passengers with a disability or medical condition;
Life-support and life-sustaining liquids such as bone marrow, blood products, and transplant organs;
Items used to augment the body for medical or cosmetic reasons such as mastectomy products, prosthetic breasts, bras or shells containing gels, saline solution, or other liquids; and,
Gels or frozen liquids needed to cool disability or medically related items used by persons with disabilities or medical conditions.
You are allowed reasonable amounts over 3 ounces of the items above in your carry-on baggage, but you will need to perform the following:

Separate these items from the liquids, gels, and aerosols in your quart-size and zip-top bag.
Declare you have the items to one of our Security Officers at the security checkpoint.
Present these items for additional inspection once reaching the X-ray. These items are subject to additional screening.
We have also taken steps to ensure the security of the boarding areas after you pass through our security checkpoints. Therefore, any liquid, gel or aerosol, such as coffee or soda, purchased in the secure area beyond the security checkpoint is allowed aboard your plane. Please note that if you have a layover and are re-screened at your connecting airport the current rules (see above) for carry-ons apply. For more details, get the 3-1-1 for carry-ons.
