What other chichlids can I put in with 2 kribensis in a 55 gallon tank?

Sorry... I didn't know which category to post this in....

Anyways... I want to have 2 kribs and breed them... what other chichlids would go well with them and not eat the babies?

My tap water's pH is high... around 7.5+.

_____

And what should I diet of chichlids consist of?

If I was to feed once a day, what food exactly should I feed and how much?

I will supplement freeze-dried food such as brine shrimp, bloodworms, etc. once a week and fast them for one day each week.

I'll buy chichlid pellets tommorow... exaclty what should I buy?

Also... I've had firemouths and convicts before. I fed them sinking pellets and sometimes there would be too much water and they wouldn't be able to see it once it hit the gravel. any tips?

_____

What decorations should I get in the tank? I heard that I'm supposed to have a cave in there for the kribs to breed... Any specific brands or kinds I should get?

I dont know what to suggest as far as fish.

But for food get the floating pellets and not the sinking type. You only want the sinking for bottom feeders. Hikari or Omega One pellets are good.

Kribs are african, I believe. don't know much about African cichlids, except that kribs are pretty small, and there are many that won't grow over 5". you could probably add quite a few more africans, but you should probably post in that forum for more specific guidance.

Edit: they are west African, so off the top of my head, jewels may be good tank mates. heres a profile link:

damn, I didn't read your entire post. probably any cichilid will eat the babies. if you want to breed kribs, you probably don't want any other cichlids in that tank. none that I know of, anyway.

hikari cichlid gold, or hikari cichlid biogold+ would be best.

biogold+ would be the best, but its much more expensive thatn gold in stores. you can get it at a reasonable price from http://www.petsmart.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2754926

this stuff retails at 19.99 a bag at the store, but is cheaper than cichlid gold online.

I just got some delivered. its an 8.8 oz size, and only cost $8.49. savings of $11.50. well worth the shipping cost and time.

maybe angels would do good, apistogrammas, or rams. kribs stay small so it prolly wouldnt be too good to mix them with larger cichlids

kribs are african, not great lake, but they have the temperament for general community set ups such as tetra, angels, guppies etc. kribs are not aggressive considering they are an african cichlid. they get about as aggressive as rams when breeding, obviously you get your odd psychos but that goes with all cichlids. mild central/south american cichlids that dont get bigger than 5" should do fine. even a couple of uaru (fine as long as they go in young with young kribs) and possibly a blue acara (as long as the kribs are first in) would be ok IMO.
