So me and my fiancé finally got chickens (8 chicks, 5 different breeds) and I've been trying my hand at making homemade chicken treats. I started making them for our 4 dogs and they basically like the same things (minus the meat). Most of them consist of sweet potato or pumpkin and they seem to like it. Does anyone have any recipes and what do your chickens like? I've heard some chickens like peanut butter but ours aren't too crazy for it. They mostly like sunflower seeds, mealworms, corn, or bugs, just bugs in general.. lol share pics too. I'd like to see what other people have. Here's a few pics of mine when they were chicks, they're a week short of 5 months now.image.jpeg image.jpeg image.jpeg

stick to the peep mash you are feeding them, and supplement with just about any fruit or vegetable there is, as well as the mealworms you are feeding them. My parents have chickens, and they eat EVERYTHING. Apples, carrots, potatoes, pears...everything.

I keep turkeys, chickens, ducks and guineas and the only thing we really give them as treats are some types of vegetable table scraps. My chickens have really been enjoying our extra pumpkins that are cut up. Other than that they are fed crushed pellets and some scratch grain and whole corn when let out to free range for the day.

Thanks, they are pretty entertaining. They've been on a diet of mash since I got them but we just introduced scratch. I tried feeding them fruit a couple times and they didn't like it as much as thier seed treats. I thought about putting that mixture in the biscuits I make them. The bantams I had (only had them for like 4 months) like tomatoes but these chickens don't care for that either.

The biscuits I make contain wheat flour, rolled oats, peanut butter, dab of molasses, sweet potato or pumpkin.

That's cool. I wish I could keep other kinds of birds but don't have anything to put them in. Ducks would be awesome.

Nice looking chicks. That dark brown one in the last photo looks a little bit like Donald Trump.

Protein is really important while they're growing so a high protein chick starter mash is the #1 thing you should feed them right now.
