Yeah I mostly agree with you but dont you think that feeding P's with chicken and beef during the early stages of their life would make good to them?.... I mean they're growing so all the fat and proteins are needed and taken advantage of, for those juvenile organisms in development.

Cheers.

agree, forgot that they were just 1" in size, maybe after few months but at this stage, mostly fish and shirmp and maybe some other sea food such as scallops and squid.

i belive that armand is saying that at this stage they need the extra fat and protien so it would be ok for them now in this critical phase of growth but as hey get old it wouldnt be good for them not the reverse (that they need it later in their growth)

an other proof that I cannot read, LOL

anyway. I think protein is more important than fat when we are talking about fish. Fish and other sea food, pound for pound, have more protein than most red meat. Also piranha's digestive system cannot digest mammal meat as efficiency as fish or other sea food, it'll be more difficult for them to absorb nutrient.
feeding fish or other sea food would be the best way to go and also protein rich insects such as worms would be a good addition to the diet as well.

just wondering have there been any studies as to whether fish cant digest mammalian meats as effectively as fish meats? Becuase its nuts to say that if an animal is a fish it cant digest mammal meat it would be like saying "were mammals so logicaly we cant eat chicken meat becuase there birds not mammals" (assuming its not proven that they cnat physically digest it im talking about jsut saying it blind with no facts)

Young Redbellied Piranha's are silver in color, their body covered with small black spots. The shape of the head is much more concave than adults and they have very large eyes. Juvenile Pygocentrus piranha's can be pretty hard to tell apart from baby Serrasalmus species, because they very much look the same, making proper identification a difficult task.
Even at young age, piranha's are very greedy eaters. They should be fed newly hatched brine shrimp the first days, and their diet can be complemented with flakes, blood worms, mosquito larvae and other small foods when older. And they should be fed often, at least 2-3 times per day, to keep them healthy and properly developing. Juveniles grow fast: in their first months the growth speed can increase to half an inch to an inch per month, and soon their diet can be complemented with small feeders (I used Neon Tetras), pieces of fish, shrimp etc. Beef heart should not be fed until the young fish have reached an age of at least 9 months, because of their high contents of fat and fibres. This puts a lot of strain on their not yet fully developed digestive system, and constipation may eventually turn out fatal for the young fish. The same is true for adult piranha's as well, although an occasional treat of beef heart (once per month) is unlikely to cause any problems.

actually at that size in the wild, piranhas mainly eat insects, nip fins or small invertebrate.
