Ok so my GF and her EX has two kids together and they both agreed that she will keeping the girl while he keeps the boy. Anyways we just got a letter from the city stating that they're trying to get child support from her for the boy.

Now how can this be possible when they both are caring for a child each? Any steps we can/should take?

I don't think that is possible unless her ex makes SIGNIFICANTLY less...

I would fight it. If each has one you should be fine. Unless he wants her the carry insureance b/c he doesn't have any. then I could see them making her carry insurance for both. but not paying anything to him for support. But if she's getting $30 and hour and he's layed off she's going to more then likely have to pay. and in that case file for full custody of both and make him pay you.

Just have your girlfriend file for child support for them as well.

it all comes down to who makes what and can offer what lawer up and hope for the best

Thanks for the responses

It seems the reason was he was trying to get medical coverage for the son through the state because he's laid off at the moment. We told him we have no problem putting the son under our insurance/health care policy. The EX will go back and tell the city that so hope all is well.

Thanks again

if its already been filed your screwed get a lawyer bro went thru it the state wont stop the case until they there self have resolved it once filed its a national law they have to follow thru

With him not having a job it's the state that's after the money, not so much the other guy. Get an attorney, trust me been through this before twice.
