Here&There
My Chilean Rosehair Tarantula is not eating. She is at least 15 yrs old and has not molted in some time. Her abdomen is almost completely bald. She doesn't move much and has not spun any new gossamer since I cleaned her cage out last. I added a cricket to her tank and it landed right next to her. This used to spell certain disaster for the cricket, but now she acts as if she is scared of it. She shows no interest. I have left the cricket over night in the tank (standard 10gal) and find it happy and chirping the next morning. Is she about to molt? Is she about to die of old age? This is the longest I have had a tarantula, so I am unfamiliar with their behavior in their golden years. Any help would help. Thanks.

She could be on her last standing leg. Usually turantulas live 15-20 years. Or she could be molting. It sounds like you are gonna have to watch and wait. What are you doing for water? She could be dehidrated. If it only has been happening for 3 or 4 days like it sounds i think you might be freakin out for nothing. I would just watch and see what happens.

I now have a pet cricket. Spider still not moving much. Water is available at all times in shallow ground-level bowl. Even lightly moistened some of bedding (ie peat & bark chips) to try to increase humidity to help with molt if that is what is happening. House is about 74F with mod humidity.

I agree with Gigas. haha.

Seriously though, it sounds like your rosie is at the end of its days, I would just keep trying but don't get your hopes up, she may not last another year. Sorry to say it.
