I bought a 4ft freshwater tank after having a regular tropical 3ft and decided to go exotic and bought xenophilapias (sand sifters and bristle noses and two other breeds which i cant remember off hand now but I just got my power bill and just about fell over 3kilowatts extra a day I didnt think it would be that expensive Also i want to ask about Purigen do others use it and recharge it or just a one time usage
thanks

I use and recharge my purigen every time... As for chillers... Dont run one myself, but hAve heard from many people they do suck electricity like crazy... Basically like running a small air-con 24/7

[thanks i will try the recharge I was just a little apprehensive as these fish cost a lot and didnt want to kill them off I might try turning it off in cooler weather but i will probably get paranoid about the temp but i think at that price i am going to try

Well, as i said that was what i heard from people, not from personal experience, although all the people that told me about it are people who've been keeping shrimps for a long time (so they run chillers almost all year around)... but i agree, i wouldn't see a need to run a chiller in winter for example, unless your house was very well heated and the tank temps raised too much...
