in my house i have a masonry chimney with a clay tile liner. In that i have a wood stove insert.
recently i had my chimney inspected, the man that did it told me i need a liner/duck work to take the smoke and ashes partially up the chimney. so basically its a metal liner that hooks up to the stove and channels the smoke past the first bend. this is with the current tiles being fine.
my father, a building inspector for the fire department, took a look at it and said the extra duck work isnt needed. basically that the clay liner would suffice and the guy was just trying to rip me off.
although the chimney is used infrequently, its been like this for over 20 years
does anybody have any chimney knowledge? please help.
edit: case solved the recommendations have been changed since my dad inspected residences. a direct connect with block off is now recommended.
