Chinchilla problem

I have an 8 year old chinchilla that's been having a bit of a digestive problem lately. Their feces are usually dry and pellet shaped, but she's been having serious diarrhea lately. We've switched out all of her food to alphalpha like the book says, but she's still having trouble.

Any suggestions on how to remedy this? It's gotten to the point where we can't pick her up because she's making such a mess.

I would go to a vet an chinchilla with diarrhea is very difficult top cure on your own.

Has she eaten something out of the ordinary? Chinchilas are not able to digest sugar

I dont have them but,you said you switched to what the book said,did it say how long it would take to fix it,maybe it just needs a few days to work.Either way though,I would go to a more specifide site for them with more action on the subject and maybe do the vet thing.Will it still eat good.Hey Im not sure but I think keeping it hydrated right now will be important too but if he cant have sugar then Im not sure what to use because pedialight may be out of the question>good luck.

I would call a small animal vet. Dehydration could be an issue if it lasts too long.

do u give yours timothy hay?that's suppose to be good for their system.i give it to mine,and no sweets,plenty of clean water.

I have heard the timothy hay is better for them, but mine won't eat it. Picky.

My mom is allergic to timothy hay, so that's out of the question. She seems to be getting a bit better. It might just be old age and deteriorating health. I'm going to call my friend's mom, she's an excellent vet. Deals with everything from dogs and cats to eagles, horses, and hamsters.

She's doing loads better!!! She's back to her hyper-active, fuzzy self.
