I watched two Chinese algae eaters exhibit some possible spawning behavior today. The tank is a 125 acrylic that is outdoors. The tank bottom is white sand covered with a layer of loose algae and detritus. I first noticed a circle of clean white sand , then the two CAE's sparring. Nothing unusual there. Passed by 1/2 hour later and same 2 fish still in the white circle, now in a tail to tail T or L shape facing a larger tinfoil barb. OK so this is new to me. I watched the two defend what I am guessing may be a possible spawning site for another 15 minutes. A friend took a short video. They kept the sandy site clean, did a front to side T many times, ran off anything that came near the area. I did not see eggs, but I don't think I could anyway. A few hours later when I passed by the tank again the site was abandoned and the CAE's were hiding somewhere.

Anyone have any insight to this activity? Pre spawning maybe?

Thanks for the link and encouragement Bigger.
I have not observed this behavior again since yesterday.

Not much info available on their spawning behavior. Watching your video, it does look like spawning behavior rather than territorial fighting.
