What do I do with a batfish or chinese hi fin with pretty bad fin rot? The dorsal fin got bit by a huge brasiliensis.
I have been trying melafix and pimafix with no luck whatsoever!

First, is thios tank heated? They do best in the low 70s F.
For bacterial fin rot try a mix of Maracyn and Maracyn 2.
Also watch your ammonia and nitrite/nitrate levels as these fish need good water.

The tank is 75 degrees. Don't all fish require good water quality?

sort of. Some fish like oscars can live a long time in bad quality water. They might not like it, but they are hardy guys. Other fish, like certain catfish and loaches, and especially discus, will turn belly up as soon as your parameters change a little

Most of the time fin rot is caused by bacteria rather than true fungus, it still looks a bit fuzzy. As Onion said, some fish are more sensitive to water quality than others, SA leaf fish and pikeheads are examples of fish that are very sensitive. Chinese high fins also have a rep for being touchy, esp. to nitrites and nitrates, as well as low O2 levels.

Well he or she is in a 120g with a drip setup and my nitrates never go above 15ppm in any of my tanks. I'm sure I don't ever have nitrite or amonia in any of my tanks also.

I've used erythromycin (like in Maracyn) on several fish with good results.
Haven't had any luck whatsoever with pimafix or melafix on finrot.
If it's really bad you may have to do a 2nd treatment or more. Just do a big water change before the next round of treatments. There are directions on the box.
