I just picked up two of these bad boys from my LFS tonight. I have never seen or heard of these catfish before but they really caught my eye and I had to have a couple. I got them at about 3"-3.5" roughly but I know little to nothing about them and cannot find anything online about them either so I'm hoping you guys can help me out. The owner told me he ordered them from Singapore and believes they max out between 7"-9" but he doesn't know a lot about them either as it is the first time he's ever had them in his 25 years of fish keeping.

I'm looking for any and all info on these fish including feeding habits, behaviour, tank preference etc. I will try and post some pictures tomorrow when my tank lights are back on.

Thanks Mike,

This is indeed the proper species name and with it I was able to find more information on the species. They seem to be a somewhat rare species as I cannot find many others with these in their tanks. I found this link which gave me a lot more information on this catfish but I could still go for a better idea of what to be feeding them at the moment.

It seems as though no site refers to this fish as a chinese highway catfish but instead either an Amur Catfish, Tawny dragon catfish, or yellow catfish (as the become more yellow when they become adults to my understanding. Anyone know which of these names would be most common for my own future reference on the MFK?

Thanks again

Thats really funny actually because at the store where I picked these up, the tank next to the one with these cats .. was filled with rainbow snakeheads which he doesn't have in often either. He brought them in once for me a few years back and I had a moment where I missed them and almost went with a couple of rainbows instead of these cats but decided on the cats because I hadn't ever heard of them and they intrigued me. Coincidence.

Lol that is a weird cat..wish we had snakes here like you guys
