Chinese wels Silurus meridionalis at Fish Story

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Super stoked for you. Beautiful specimen. Definitely true Chinese wels as there was a bit of back and forth for a while about what was “true” Chinese wels, Amur catfish, or Chinese sheatfish. Happy to see you got a normal morph on your hands. These are increasingly rare with the new morph craze. Hope you can get him to become an over ~2’ footer. They may get a bad wrap, but they are the coolest catfish I’ve ever worked with. Enjoy this fish as I am enjoying mine!!!

In 5 months here, the fish grew tremendously in girth (grew perhaps 3x by weight) and significantly in length. A short glimpse of it grabbing a large piece of fish at 1:45 min.

That guy is a chunk now! Crazy fast transformation for u 💀🤙… i know u feed quite a bit for the masses there. How often? My specimen is only fed once a week on pellets and it sure shows compared to this. Im still around 22” at 6 yrs.

Thank you Russ, you have a calibrated eye, great eye as usual. In the summer we feed once in 1-2 days. In the winter once in 3-4 days. Each feeding is enough for everyone to fill up, including the meridionalis.

I know you know the answers, so the video title is not directed at you at all, but at those peers who ask me.

I am still slow. Prior feeding, I had fed 3x the amount trying to get the catfish to fill up, he wouldn't budge. Several hours before the next feeding, he ate a LMB (granted it has been sick for a month).

Was hoping this guy would stick it out for you in the 1800 playing nice. Its been making me want to cohab mine again. Sad to see thats a no go for sure lol… shame these guys are so agro despite their small stature. Rich still has 2 in community setups which is very surprising.
