So I got a new 65G that I'm using for a reef tank. It come with a tower overflow and is pre drilled. On the bottom, there is a chip under the overflow box area...it's not a hairline crack or a crack at all. The glass is quite thick (0.25 inch) But I'm worried it might leak, even if it is under the overflow area where it will not suffer from too much water pressure. Any advice is appreciated.

As long as the chip is not deep or in any of the seams where the glass panels are connected you should be fine, but still do a leak test for reassurance. Btw you stated the aquarium is new not used.

Without seeing it can't be sure. Is the tank new or new to you? I would exchange it if possible, for the piece of mind.

sure they do. my 180 is a custom built reef tank from the 80ies when the UG system was the thing to have.

i also have a chip missing from both my 90g and my 145g, they are not an issue, have not been for years.

Hello; When the world went to all glass tanks the edges were left unprotected. I have managed to make such chips along edges myself. I found a solution to the issue. A prevention not a fix, however. I get some lengths of plastic corner protector made for the outside corners of a wallpaper job. They are clear plastic. I find them a bit wide and sometimes will use a utility knife to trim them down a bit. I adhear them to ther outside corners of a glass tank with clear silicone. They have done the job for me for the last several years.

I have run chipped tanks, but do not like it. Most of my chips are not too bad and the tanks have held up for a few years.

Fill it with silicone?
