Curious how much a home water softener contributes to removing chloramines. When I test my water from the city, I get about 2ppm of ammonia (probably from the chloramines). After the water is passed through the water softener, the ammonia is zero. Likewise when testing for chlorine, I get 1ppm from the city (even though the city uses chloramines), and zero after passing through the water softener.
Does this mean the water is free of chlorine and chloramines? Are the aquarium tests for ammonia and chlorine adequate to measure chloramines?
