what can i use to get rid of chlorine and chloramine i have a 55 gallon and i do several small water changes almost everyday as to not over do the chlorine

I only use Seachem Prime. It removes all that crap and helps your biofilter as well... Plus it is super concentrated so you dont use alot.

Prime is a good product for the that. Main ingredient is Sodium thiosulphate. This reacts with chlorine to form sodium chloride, common salt, harmless in small amounts. It also treats ammonia, nitrite and chloramines in a similar way.

It wont actually remove anything, but it converts it into 'mostly harmless' chemicals.

If you are unsure about how clean your tap water is you should treat it with something like prime to de-toxify it.

my prime says 1capful per 50gallons(or 55?)
but what do i do when i only want to add to 5gallons...

what happens if i over-dose it? just by a little though..

Get a smaller cap ;)

A small overdose wont hurt, and under dosing probably wont either, unless the water is badly contaminated.

But I suggest you get a little measuring container (like a medicine cup) and put in as close to the correct amount as you can.

A baby's medicine syringe works great if you can't talk your Doctor out of them :D.

The cap holds 5ml (for 50 gallons), and the cap threads are roughly 1ml (for 10 gallons). So if you need 5 gallons, then roughly half a thread will do you. Prime (on the container) indicates 4x the dosage for emergency situations, so going over by a 'little' isn't a problem. I've never had a problem and always used to always judge by the threads. I would also agree a dropper is a nice thing to have for numerous reasons.
