Help please, In one of my large aquaria, a female Chocolate cichlid, and a male Green terror have laid (and fertilised)eggs! this was not an intenyional breeding mix, and I have never encountered this mix before, and help or advice would be very much appreciated, Both parents to be, and the eggs have been separated from the aquarium, and are in a tank by themselves, a few of the eggs have turned white, but the majority are the usual light brown colour

since the Chocolate Cichlid and Green Terror cichlid are so dissimilar, I find this to be an extraordinarily unlikely combination . . . those eggs are surely infertile

if not, I would ask: what else was in the tank?

There is a Jewel, red parrot, some keyholes, a couple of rainbows, a firemouth,

the terror was guarding the eggs with determination, I have had many different cichlids lay eggs, and spawn them successfully, he was fanning the eggs, and being quite fierce, even for a terror!

They are both SA so there is a snowballs chance in hell.
Either the eggs are infertile, or the GT and chocolate hijacked somebodys eggs.

you sure about the sexes? could the GT be the female, and be guarding its own infertile eggs? the "hijacking" theory also sounds plausible

the genetics of the chocolate and GT just don't lend themselves to hybridization, they are of totally different genus-types . . .

I would love to see them as adults, what a combo.

for anyone who is interested, I now have the fry from the Green terror / chocolate mix! any thoughts? I do not inyend to destoy them, and I am just waiting to see what they turn out like
