I have a 4 inch chocolate and ever since I got him(8 months ago) he frequently goes to the top of the water and seems as if he is just staring or looking at something on the surface. He is perfectly healthy but just has this odd behavior and wanted to know if anyone else has experienced this with their chocolate or any other fish they keep.

It is completly normal classic "heads up posture" Chocolates love to be vertical. Mine will jump stright up out of the tank at feeding time. I feed NLS Thera +A but my two go absolutly nuts over Omega One Super Veggie Pellets. So now they get both. I always wondered why Chocolates do the heads up thing but then imagined thay must have evolved by blending into the background and waiting for somthing the hit the surface. That's just my guess I don't know that for sure. They all do it though.

Agree with this guy above ^

Chocolates and festivum have a habit of just sitting at the top vertically and sometimes even swim around like that. But then when they eat they act like monsters lol

My chocolate does the same. Makes it easy to get him to eat out of my hand. And at times he jumps up at something and hits the glass. Must be how they feed in the wild.

Thanks, there for a while I thought he might be retarded or something
