I've had my Chocolate for a little over a month now. The first 2 weeks it was extremely shy and stayed jet black. He is now very comfortable, and a hog, reminds me of an oscar with his glutency, but has remained jet black up until this week. It has been doing some crazy color fluxuations this week, he can turn really light gray and translucant(I can see its spine and organs) his fins and eyes stay crimson red and black so it looks really wild when he does it. The first time I noticed it I was on the phone with my friend, and in mid sentence I was like WTF! he didnt believe me until last night when he came over and watched him do over and over and over in a 10minute period. Is this normal behavior in chocolates or do I have the coolest fish alive (or should I be concerned?)

normal, mine does it all the time(lately i have seen purple and orange added to the many colors he changes to)

its small, about 2 1/4". Its in a juvy cichlid growout tank with other cichlids and oddballs, most of which are larger than him. There is no aggression from it or any cichlid towards it since its an overstocked juvy growout tank. Its really starting to become one of my favorite cichlids, I was feeding shrimp the other night, and I cut various size peices since I have different size fish, it ate a piece meant for a bigger fish, and had to swim with its mouth fully extended for about 10minutes while it swallowed it.

mine are like 5inches,they are getting very aggressive towards their tank mates.

Just wait til the some of the green starts to come out. When i set up my 300g again i plan on picking up a pair.
What type of cichlid is the one on your picture? I've had one for over a year and haven't been able to findout the name of it!!!
