I am curious about how carnivorous these fish are? I feed mine the same as my severums since their housed together which is a very herbivorous diet. The main staple I use is YFS soft spirulina pellets which do have fish protiens and are about 33% protein. I also mix in the soft krill pellets and some NLS pellets but the soft foods have somewhat spoiled them and with YFS being so affordable it ends up being the bulk of their diet. This tank seems very healthy with good growth rates on this omnivorous food regimine so I have to think that everyone's dietary needs are met. Any thoughts on this?

as far as I understand they are primarily Insectivorous, which would lead to a high protein content in the wild. Though to be honest 33% protein isn't all that low...I will say from first hand experience that good growth does not always equate to good health. For example many herbivorous fish will actually grow quite well on a meaty diet, it just isn't good for them...

Good info thanks guys. I guess I will keep going with the diet he's on. All the plant matter in the YFS spirulina pellets certainly doesn't seem to be slowing his growth a bit and the severums love that stuff for sure.

My chocolate loves woodlice and earthworms as well as pellets so you could maybe alternate with these sometimes

My SA community, similar to yours-I try to mix it up with veg.pellets and omnivorous foods.if fish are healthy I would stay the course your on

It also depends on age. Younger fish need a higher content of digestible protein than adults.

Ours eat Northfin (Cichlid, Veggie, & Krill Pro) Hikari Cichlid Gold, NLS Thera A, frozen brine shrimp, bloodworms, mysis, plankton, and glassworms. They especially like freeze dried blackworms.
